75th Annual Flower Show 19th August St Catherine’s Church Centre

August 20th, 2017

A better show day for weather than last year and our number of exhibitors was up and also the number of visitors to the Show. There were excellent dahlias, chrysanthemums, roses and vegetable exhibits were present on the show benches. Handicrafts and photographic sections were exceptionally well supported.

The Banksian medal, awarded to the exhibitor winning the most prize money in the horticultural classes and not won in the last two years, was won by Bob Davies who always brings  award winning roses and chrysanthemums.

The Stockport Advertiser Cup for Best in Show went to Dave Shaw Jnr for his class of two leeks narrowly beating a vase of Carol Moakes’ dahlias. Dave’s leeks also won the Vegetable Society Medal.

Carol won the Watkins Challenge trophy for dahlias as well as the Dahlia Society’s Silver Medal. Dave Shaw Snr  won the bronze medal.

Andrew Moakes from Wigan gained the most points in the vegetable classes and won the Wilkins trophy for the second year running.

Mavis McCarthy was awarded the most points in the fuchsia classes to take the Sid Broadhurst Trophy

Stephen Little won  the Markham Trophy for  best entry by a novice in the vegetable section.

In the domestic classes Maureen Oatway gained the most points and Walter Fitzpatrick’s jam was judged to be the best entry in these classes.

O Howarth won the Connie Anderton trophy for best handicraft exhibit. The Best Photo was taken by Mark Bexley and gained him the Roy Wardrop trophy

Many thanks to all our exhibitors, sponsors and visitors.
